Prep Class for Maryland State Tournament

Regular price $105.00

The focus in these classes is to prepare students to play in slower in-person tournaments.  We'll be covering practical positional and tactical ideas, and working on calculation.  The focus is mostly on positions where students need to consider and evaluate a few different options, and spend more than a minute or two thinking.

Classes are appropriate for students K-8 who are rated under 1400, including players who've never played in a tournament before.  Students will be grouped by skill.

Instead of zoom, we're using the new software Chessable Classroom. If you haven't used it, it's basically zoom for chess! To join, you'll need to go to and create a Chessable account if you don't already have one.  It should only take a minute.  It's going to let us do some really cool things during the lessons!
We have two class times available:

Mondays: 5:00-6:30pm EST

Tuesdays: 5:00-6:30pm EST

Coach Uthra and Coach Adarsh will be leading the classes.
Uthra started playing chess at a summer chess camp at the age of 6. She fell in love with the game, and went on to earn the WFM title and won a gold medal at the Asian U-17 games. She has a peak FIDE rating of 2114 has been coaching kids for more than 4 years.
Adarsh (FIDE 2178) has been playing chess since the age of 7. Adarsh is a commerce student and has won multiple International/National/State achievements which include a Commonwealth Silver Medal in U12 (2017). Adarsh is currently actively pursuing his ambition of getting an IM title while simultaneously fulfilling his passion for nurturing and training young talents in chess by working with MCA.
