Zoo Chess

In this camp, we take kids on a field trip to the chess zoo! Have you ever tried the Hippopotamus Defense? What about the Kangaroo, Orangutan, Hedgehog or Giraffe? We will learn about chess by studying some of the openings with funny animal names. Kids can invent their own opening too and name it after their favorite animal. Anyone ever heard of the Hyper-Accelerated Wombat variation?

Our beginner students will focus more on the basic principles when they start a game, and our more advanced groups will dive into more complex variations.

Typical schedule for a day:

9:30-9:40 Introductions, chat, get to know each other
9:40-10:10 Lesson
10:10-10:45 Practice games and possibly student game analysis
10:45-11:00 Break
11:00-11:25 Lesson
11:25-12:00 Practice games
