Opening Workshop - Maróczy Bind (Feb 22)
Regular price $49.00The Sicilian Defense is a popular opening at all levels, from beginners to world champions. It can be tricky to beat, and one of White’s aggressive weapons against this defense is the dreaded Maróczy Bind. The bind pawn structure is where White places pawns on c4 and e4, restricting Black's opportunity for pawn breaks. If Black fails to break out, White can squeeze Black... until they burst!
In our opening workshop you will:
- Learn the main positional ideas, tricks, and traps of the Maróczy bind
- Study master games and then actually play the positions against other students
- Ask our expert coach about how to play this opening for a win!
This workshop was developed and will be taught by Coach Amirali Delavari (2222 FIDE), one of our top online academy coaches. Amirali loves this opening and loves teaching kids how to play it. As with all our online classes, we combine teaching with playing to create a fun learning experience.
To attend the workshop, you should have a solid understanding of chess tactics but you don’t need to know anything about the Sicilian or other openings. Some tournament experience and a USCF rating above 500 are recommended but not required. Current academy members should be Queens or Kings level.
We're using the interactive software Chessable Classroom. If you haven't used it, it's basically zoom for chess!
Class Time:
- Saturday, February 22nd: 1:30pm-5:00pm ET/10:30am-2:00pm PT
