Collection: Washington D.C. Chess

More than 6,000 elementary and middle school students have learned chess in our after school clubs and summer camps in DC since 2011. We work with public, private, and charter schools from all 8 wards!  Some students have won District championships (including in 2025 and 2026) but most of our students are new to chess and looking to learn a fun new game. Everyone starts as a curious beginner!

We work with DC Parks and Rec and the Friends of Stead Park to host the Charles Carroll Carter Capital Chess Classic in March, a free tournament with a $10,000 college scholarship prize fund.

If you don't see your school in our list of current schools below you can go here to set one up with us!  We also do tournaments every month nearby.
