Class Time

The focus in these classes is to prepare students to play in slower in-person tournaments. We'll be covering practical positional and tactical ideas, and working on calculation. The focus is mostly on positions where students need to consider and evaluate a few different options, and spend more than a minute or two thinking.

Classes are appropriate for students K-8 who are rated under 1400 USCF, including players who've never played in a tournament before. Students will be grouped by skill. If you're rated over 1400 USCF, you should try out one of our GM classes here

Some of our coaches include:

  • IM/WGM Dorsa Derakhshani
  • FM Adarsh Tripathi
  • FM Gustavo Cadena
  • WCM Savetha CH
  • WFM Aasa Dommalapati

We're using the software Chessable Classroom. If you haven't used it, it's basically zoom for chess!

Classes are 1.5 hours long. We have two different class times(6 weeks each):

  • Mondays 7:00pm-8:30pm EST
    • Feb 12 - Apr 22 skip 2/19 (10 weeks)
  • Thursdays 7:00pm-8:30pm EST
    • Feb 15 - Apr 25 (11 weeks)

Students who do Mondays and Thursdays will do different lessons.  Email online@chessacademy.com if you have any questions!
